Understanding the Air Sniper Test Results

Understanding the Air Sniper Test Results - Air Sniper - Industrial Air Purifier - Featured Image

With so much on the line, it is important for air sanitization companies to produce real value for their clients. After all, we are in the midst of a pandemic. Effective cleaning solutions that not only protect our employees and customers but also improve factors like work efficiency, are a critical part of a holistic approach to cleaning and sanitizing.

The means of production are also becoming more of a focus. While mechanical pre-filters are an important part of the overall system, the fact that they only trap dirt and pathogens cannot be ignored. The sanitizing capabilities of UVC supplemental air sanitization, on the other hand, are just beginning to become a serious choice for commercial and industrial business owners.

So, how does Air Sniper show that its UVC technology is legitimate and effective in combating airborne contaminants? Through one of the best methods of verifying a product manufacturer’s claims, namely independent testing and third-party results. Let us take a look at the results of their latest round of testing against SARS-CoV-2 MS2.

The Method

The whole method of testing will not be reviewed here. For that, simply head over to the Air Sniper website and take a look at the complete testing documents. But it is still important to give a basic overview of the testing method.

Using an environmentally-controlled testing environment, Airmid Healthgroup introduced a surrogate to the COVID-19 virus, SARS-CoV-2 MS2. This surrogate is Bacteriophage MS2, which is a reliable stand-in for the COVID-19 particle. Inside the chamber, sampling equipment collects information that will later be analyzed by plaque assay, which assesses the infectivity of the sampled virus.

Three control tests were conducted without the supplemental air sanitization equipment running. Three tests were also run with the equipment running. The results of both are compared below.

The Results

The results of the test were extremely favourable for Air Sniper’s products. The measurement is in plaque-forming units per cubic metre of air (log PFU/m3). Here are the control test results between 50-60 minutes:

  • 8.49
  • 7.89
  • 6.88
  • Avg: 7.78

Now let’s compare the same length of time with an Air Sniper Ultra 199-110200 running throughout the exposure period:

  • 6.40
  • 5.98
  • 5.93
  • Avg: 6.10

As you can see, there is quite a difference. Again, these are only the only results after 50-60 minutes of exposure for both tests. Measurements were also recorded before the equipment began, between 5 and 15 minutes, and again between 20 to 30 minutes.
